Our fruit box is one of a kind. Not just because of its recognisable green colour, but also because it's made from recycled materials. It's FSC approved and 100% recyclable. Of course, we don’t fill the fruit boxes standing under the apple tree; our fruit has travelled quite a distance before it arrives at our distribution centre. So, let’s go on a fruit journey together.
Wood-erful! No plastic, but cardboard and wood!
Our fruit comes to us directly from growers in large cardboard containers. Wherever possible, we avoid the use of unnecessary plastic. However, sometimes plastic is needed to ensure safe transport, like a plastic sheet keeping nectarines in place to prevent bruising. We make it our mission to recycle all plastic used by our growers. If cardboard isn't available, we prefer to use wood. Wooden crates can often be returned to the supplier for reuse.
Did you know...
Some of our farmers even make great use of wooden crates that can no longer be reused? These crates have a base made of compressed wood and glue. Farmers break this into small pieces and scatter it between their plantations. When ignited, it acts like an ecological paraffin burner to help keep their orchards warm during the winter.
FSC-Approved
At Fruit At Work, we operate with a closed-loop cycle, a circular economy. The cardboard boxes in which we receive our fruit are compacted once emptied. The compacted cardboard is then used to produce new boxes.
Our boxes proudly carry the FSC certification. You'll find the FSC Mix label on them. The small fraction of virgin paper comes from responsibly managed forests, and this FSC-certified material is mixed with recycled cardboard.
